Kedarnath is one of Lord Shiva’s twelve Jyotirlingas. Kedarnath Yatra is well known for being one of the four Chota Char Dham pilgrimage destinations and housing the Kedarnath temple. The Kedarnath temple, which is almost 1,200 years old, is the most famous temple of the Hindu god Lord Shiva. It is located next to the site of an ancient Pandava temple. Adi Shankaracharya built this mandir in the eighth century A.D. The Lord in his Sadashiva form is worshipped in this temple as the conical Shiva lingam distinguishes the temple from the other Shiva temples. The spectacular Kedarnath peak lies behind the temple and contributes to the picture. There are also other temples to visit during the Kedarnath trip, such as the Bhairavnath Temple and the Triyuginarayan Temple, where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married.
Kedarnath is a lush green valley with meandering rivers and snow-capped peaks that is part of the Garhwal Himalayan Range and offers tranquillity. Lapped in the verdant hills of the Himalayas, the calm atmosphere here, with its cool and gentle air, provides a perfect tourist hideaway. Every year Kedarnath is also visited by individuals who enjoy conquering the rugged terrain of Garhwal. Chorabari Lake, or Gandhi Tal, adds to the region’s natural beauty and is a must-see spot thought to be where Lord Shiva instructed Saptarishis and where some of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed. Guptkashi offers breathtaking vistas of the snow-capped Chaukhamba hills and is home to the Manikarnika Kund, Vishwanath, and Ardhnarishwar Temples, the quiet village of Chopta, and deep forests.
