12 Fun Parks and Playgrounds to Visit in Parramatta With the Family

Want to spend some time outdoors as you enjoy the warm sun touching your skin? Parramatta has plenty of beautiful parks and playgrounds that you can visit, especially during the spring which is much recommended.

There are a variety of parks in this city that are lovely in the springtime, as well as playgrounds that are fun to visit at this time of year. For a warmer spring day, most have some shade. With that being said, here are some of our favourite playgrounds and parks to visit with family and friends around Parramatta city.

However, you must take note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic that is still far from over, some of these parks can’t be visited but there are several that you can visit now. For now, you can just look forward to visiting the others when restrictions ease.

And if you’re here for a quick vacay and is booked for a Parramatta hotel stay, then you might want to continue reading this article.

Parramatta Park

This wonderful regional park is a big favourite and a lovely place to stroll, ride, or play. There are BBQs and picnic shelters around the park, as well as landscaped areas, ducks, and bike trails. With the rose garden and jacarandas, it’s especially delightful to visit in the mid/late spring.

There are two wonderful playgrounds in Parramatta Park! On the Westmead side of the park, the Domain Creek playground is the largest of the two. The newer Paperbark playground at Pavilion Flat, near the George Street Gatehouse, is a short walk from Georgie Boy Cafe and is also an inclusive play facility.

Paperbark Playground

This new inclusive play area, located near the George Street Gatehouse in the historic Gardens Precinct, is excellent for children and toddlers. It has the most cutting-edge playground equipment as well as old favourites like swings and a carousel that are accessible to children of all abilities, including wheelchair users.

The ‘explorer dome,’ a massive maze constructed of ropers, nets, tubes, and ladders that older kids can crawl through and stand on, is the centrepiece. The playground floor is covered in ‘softball’ pavers, and there are many benches for parents and carers.

Wangal Reserve, Mortlake

Wangal Reserve, which overlooks the Parramatta River, is in a fantastic location! And the fantastic nature-based playground that was completed last year just adds to the fun of visiting with young children.

Lake Parramatta Reserve

This beautiful paradise just north of Parramatta has a lot to offer. From kid-friendly nature walks around the lake and playground play to swimming, paddle boats, and BBQs, there’s something for everyone!

Ducks, bathrooms, a cafe, picnic shelters, and on-site parking are also available at Lake Parramatta Reserve. On weekends and during school vacations, lifeguards are usually on duty at Lake Parramatta from late October until early April.

Strathfield Park

Strathfield Park checks practically every box when it comes to a terrific, spacious playground that provides hours and hours of amusement for kids of all ages and abilities, all year long. It is, without a doubt, our favourite playground in Western Sydney.

Anzac Park

Last year, the playground at Anzac Park had a significant makeover. On the Wattle Street side, this included being moved under the trees. It’s currently a good-sized district playground with a range of entertaining play equipment for kids of all ages, from toddlers to primary school students.

Parramatta River Foreshore Reserve

The Parramatta River Foreshore Reserve, located between the Riverside Theatres and the Parramatta Ferry Wharf, is a particularly scenic place along the river. The pavement art allows you to literally walk through Parramatta’s history.

There’s a wonderful outdoor playground nearby, as well as cafés (including Bay Vista Dessert Bar), a walking/riding route, restrooms (at Parramatta wharf), and the water fountain bridge (Barry Wilde Bridge).

Central Gardens Nature Reserve

The Central Gardens Nature Reserve is made up of 12 hectares of natural bushland. And it has a long number of amazing attractions, making it a terrific day out with the family! Free native animal exhibitions, a waterfall, two playgrounds, a street library, a bush school, picnic facilities, walking/riding trails, and many grass for the youngsters to run around on are all available.

Sherwin Park, North Parramatta

Your castle awaits all kings and queens, knights and princesses! Sherwin Park’s playground looks like it belongs in a Robin Hood novel. There’s also a bike path, restrooms, picnic tables, a small garden, grassed area, basketball court, and a tree-lined trail that’s bursting with blossoms in the early spring. The Container Cafe is right around the corner.

There is a fenced toddler playground and a playground for larger children right next door. The Kokoda Trail Memorial Walkway, Kokoda Cafe, and 5 Senses Playground and Garden are all nearby.

Bayview Park, Concord

This is yet another lovely spot along the Parramatta River, with cool breezes. We’ll also be able to swim in a fenced-in area! Parking, restrooms, BBQs, picnic tables, and a walking route along the foreshore are all available on-site.
